One of the city’s 77 official community areas is Greater Grand Crossing is located on the South Side.
The name “Grand Crossing” comes from an 1853 right-of-way feud between the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railway and the Illinois Central Railroad.
There are a lot of two-story houses in the area that have three- or four bedrooms, as well as traditional brick bungalows to new-construction townhomes.
Grand Crossing is a community working towards improving and reinventing itself. There is ongoing development on the east side of this Chicago neighborhood, which borders South Shore.

It is a part of the Noble Network of Charter Schools. It is named after Gary Comer, the founder of Lands’ End and philanthropic entrepreneur.
